FINALLY!! After 6 years on my DC-to-do-list, I can cross off visiting the U.S. Supreme Court! Well, actually, the item on my list was a little more ambitious than just visiting the U.S. Supreme Court. I wanted to sit through an oral argument. And that's not exactly what I did this week, but close enough. Thanks to a former colleague, I sat through a lecture on property rights in the progressive era, organized by the U.S. Supreme Court Historical Society and hosted by Justice Samuel Alito. The lecture itself was waaaay over my head, I have no legal background whatsoever, but the reception afterwards, in one of the court's stunning conference rooms, was right up my alley! I mean, of course ...

DC-To-Do List ~ 2016 Edition
Every year since 2010, I’ve been listing 10 things I *must* do in the district that year (check out the 2015, 2014, 2013 and 2010 editions.) Washington is a little bit like Paris in that even if you’ve lived there for a while, there’s ALWAYS going to be something you haven’t done yet. Whether it’s checking out a new restaurant that just opened (or has been around for a while) or finally doing that one super touristy thing you just haven’t done yet, like going to the top of the Washington Monument (which I finally did in 2014 and highly recommends everyone does at least once!) I keep a running list for Paris and one for Washington and try to keep it at 10 every year so that it is manageable. ...
DC To Do List ~ 2014 Edition
Let's do this! Another year in Washington, another to-do-list!! Here are some of the things I would like to experience in the city in 2014. Let's start with items I am carrying over from pervious years: 1. US Supreme Court - It's been on this list for 4 years. Le sigh. 2. Sip cocktails at the Columbia Room. I live so close, I've been to The Passenger so many time, so why haven't I done this yet? 3. Diner at Little Serow. 4. Catching a movie at the Arlington Cinema & Drafthouse!! OK, now that that's out of the way, some new items for the new year: 5. Visit my friend Courtney in Frederick. It's not that far and I've promised I'd visit for a while. It's on the list now, so no ...
DC-To-Do-List For 2010 ~ A Mid Year Update.
July 1st is more than just Canada Day it's also the mid point of 2010 and time to check up on how well I've been doing on my DC resolution list. I've lived in Washington for close to seven years now and there is still so much for me to do and see here. So six months into the year, how I am doing with my D.C. check list? Well... not so well :( 1) Sit on a US Supreme Court hearing > the Court reconvenes on October 4th so this resolution is tabled until the fall. 2) Visit the U.S. Holocaust Memorial Museum > Check! Of course it's impossible to say that I "enjoyed" visiting the Holocaust Museum but I am certainly glad I finally went through this powerful experience. 3) Run the Cherry ...
DC-To-Do List For 2010
There no shortage of things to do in the District. From the must-see tourist sights to off the beaten path spots, there's enough to keep you occupied or coming back. I have lived in D.C. for 6 years and have crossed a lot off my check list already (see the Oval Office, check; eat a hot dog at Ben's Chili Bowl, check...). Instead of New Year's resolutions this year, I decided to make a check list of 10 things I haven't done or seen in D.C. yet. 1) Sit in on a Supreme Court hearing. 2) Visit the U.S. Holocaust Memorial Museum. 3) Run the Cherry Blossom 10-miler. 4) Have dinner at Marcel's. 5) Attend a performance or concert at the Barns at Wolftrap. 6) Tour through the 446 acres of the U.S. ...
