How do you get away with cursing on live television? You do it in French bien sur! Unless you speak French, you probably didn't even catch Jean Dujardin's «Ouais, putain, génial, merci!» He later apologized backstage ;-) Fellow academy award winner Meryl Streep knows a thing or two about cursing during live award shows ;-) Dujardin was the first French actor to be nominated for the Best Actor Oscar since Gerard Depardieu in 1990 and the first one to win ever. I could care less if he used the French equivalent of the F* bomb at the Oscars, I'm so proud to be French and there's nothing anyone can say to rain on my The Artist parade... ... and that includes you Kaui Hart Hemmings and your ...

Ma Petite Liste – February 27-March 4, 2012
MONDAY FEBRUARY 27While 5 Oscars are being checked in to an Air France flight back to Charles de Gaulle you might be tempted to google Academy Award winner Jean Dujardin. Please don't. If you did, you might come across this video ;-) I'd rather you go see the performance that earned him an Academy Award last night. The Artist is playing at 5:15, 7:30 or 9:45PM today (well, every day this week until Friday at least) at E Street Cinema! Or watch his previous collaboration with Berenice Bejo and Academy Award winner Michel Hazanavicius OSS 17: Cairo Nest of Spies. It's a really funny film and it's available on demand on Netflix. Don't bother with the follow up film OSS 17: Lost in Rio though. ...
After The Artist… The Scratist
Was cinema silent during the ice age? I don't know but my favourite prehistorical squirrel Scrat will return to the big screens this summer in the fourth installment of his nutty pursuits for that acorn. I doubt the Ice Age: Continental Drift will be a silent, black and white film, but I love love love their new promotional video, which parodies The Artist. Of course I love pretty much anything that pays hommage to The Artist! Only a few more days until the Oscars, and then I promise I'll stop boring you with Jean Dujardin and The Artist ;-)[youtube http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AmkgXuDnhmA?rel=0] ...
Countdown to the 2012 Oscars
I always watch the Oscars but with the strong possibility that a few statuettes might end up on an Air France flight back from LAX to CDG I've actually been counting the days until February 26th this year ;-) And I'm looking forward to hosting a few friends over to cheer for The Artist (and Midnight in Paris.) I've learned a few things about hosting Oscar watch parties over the years. The first lesson is don't get over ambitious. Two years ago, I decided I would serve one dish inspired by each Best Picture nominees. That was the first time they had 10 nominees too so it was a little painful. The French Press-cious coffee based on the novel Push by Sapphire was a bit of a stretch and nobody ...
Ma P’tite Liste – February 20-26, 2012
MONDAY FEBRUARY 20Get an early start on Mardi Gras by celebrating Lundi Gras at Bayou Bakery with Chef David Guas and Les Dames d'Escoffiers. Laissez Foure jazz quartet will be entertaining guests while they munch on a four-course parade-route fare inspired meal for $55/person (includes souvenir cup and punch).TUESDAY FEBRUARY 21I know it's Mardi Gras but ladies, why not do something a little more productive than just drinking Abitas and Hurricanes? The folks at Velocity, an awesome new D.C. non-profit, wants to learn to stop managing your time and invest it in the things that truly matter instead. Their life coach will show you how to toss your to-do list and catch up with yourself ...
Vote for Sarkozy… or for quiche!!
How do you explain the French presidential elections to American audiences? Well, if you're Jim Bitterman of CNN Paris, you use food bien sur. ...

Yarning for Love in Dupont Circle this V-Day
What a lovely Valentine's Day surprise! I was walking to work this morning when I noticed a few felt and croched hearts attached to lamp posts, bus stops and business fences throughout the Dupont Circle neighbourhood. After doing a little investigative work once I got into my office, I found out that The Phillips Collection and Looped Yarn Works, a new yarn shop that recently opened on Connecticut Avenue, are behind this public display of affection! The collaboration not only brings a cozy warmth to the streets between the gallery anhd the shop on this cold February 14th holiday, they also celebrate the upcoming opening of Brooklyn based sculptor Alyson Shotz's yarn and nails ...
Color Changes Everything
Color has taken over my TV and makes me long for spring, when I can wear colorful stripes and my trench coat! I blame Target's new commercial ad in which Director Filip Engstrom follows a colorful group of runners, gymnasts and acrobats. They arrive in a hot air balloon and bring their magic (and color) to a city center and its suburbs with the hopeful message that "color changes everything." I especially love that the spot uses the popular French nursery rhyme Alouette. ♪ Alouette gentile ♫ alouette, ♪ alouette, je the plumerai ♫♪♫ ! Jean Dujardin on Saturday Night Live
I usually *hate* the Saturday Night Live skit "Les Jeunes de Paris." But I love The Artist so I actually liked this week's black and white roaring segment featuring the oscar nominated Jean Dujardin, doing what he's been doing best on American TV sets for the past few weeks: charming audiences with his dashing dance moves ;-) Did you watch it? Did you like it? I also love his Funny or Die skit... though please please please don't make a Tyler Perry's Madea's French Vacation!! ...
