One thing is for sure, the scene on the National Mall for the Rally to Restore Sanity was absolutely insane! The motto for the rally was “Take it down a notch, America” and an estimated 200,000 to 250,000 people did just that. Despite the larger than espected crowds, the lack of any cell phone coverage and the fact that you really couldn’t the stage unless you were in the VIP ticketed section, everyone on the mall yesterday was there to have a good time! People came by train, bus, metro and some like myself just walked a few blocks. They wore costumes (Where was Waldo? He was all over the mall!), t-shirts picking sides (team fear!) and carried funny signs (I voted for Barrack Who’s-sane Obama).
Massive turnout basically meant one thing for me: despite getting to the mall at 10am, this is pretty much the view I had of the stage:
Since I couldn’t see too much of Jon Stewart and Stephen Colbert’s on-stage shenanigans, I spent a lot of time looking at the signs that people carried and some of them were just plain goofy, funny and even witty. Here are a few of my favourite that I snapped that day:
My favorite sign said “You can keep your tea, I'm a coffee drinker!”. There were so many great signs though!
