Beer Week is wrapping up in D.C. but not before one last very fun event. This Sunday, August 29th, Belga Café on Capitol Hill will transform its patio into a Stella Artois beer garden and host a competition to find the next Stella Artois World Draught Master Champion. If you’ve ever seen a Stella commercial, then you should know that pouring a Stella is a “ritual” that comes in 9 steps. That’s right, 9 steps. If you think you’ve got what it takes to pour a perfect Stella then head to Belga Café Sunday between 2 and 5 pm. Chef Bart Vandaele will lead demonstrations on how to master the perfect pour and then you’ll be able to show off your skills. The best pourer of the day will move on to represent Belga Café in the regional D.C. semi-final and possibly head to the U.S. final in Boston on September 17.
I warn you though, you’ll have to compete against me!
What makes me think I have what it takes to be the next Belgian beer pourer? Well, first I’m actually part Belgian. Second, I’ve already mastered the 9 steps. Last year, I actually learned all all about the perfect pour during Belga Café‘s Fête Nationale celebration. Check out my technique:
Step 1. The Purification (ie. fancy word for cleaning the glass)
Step 3. The Liquid Alchemy (translates into the pour in plain English)
With an open heart and an empty stomach, I say unto you in the words of my uncle: Allez Cuisine Pouring! 😉
